While biopsies are a necessary diagnostic tool for EoE, any procedure involving the esophagus could potentially cause irritation. During an upper endoscopy with biopsy, tissue samples are taken from the esophagus to examine eosinophil levels and confirm diagnosis. Since EoE involves inflammation in the esophagus, it's possible that the biopsy procedure could temporarily increase local inflammation and trigger symptoms. If you're experiencing increased symptoms after a procedure, it's important to discuss this with your gastroenterologist to determine if additional treatment adjustments are needed.

Yes, EoE can cause throat irritation and soreness. This happens because eosinophils (white blood cells) gather in the esophagus and release chemicals that cause inflammation. This inflammation can lead to throat irritation, difficulty swallowing, and chronic cough. Here are some ways to help manage throat discomfort from EoE:

- Stay well hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day
- Gargle with warm salt water several times daily

While diet changes can help manage EoE, it's important to understand that untreated inflammation can lead to scarring in your esophagus, which may be difficult to manage later. The most common dietary approach is an elimination diet that removes common trigger foods like:

- Milk
- Eggs
- Soy
- Wheat
- Nuts
- Fish Some additional lifestyle modifications that may help include:

- Staying well hydrated throughout the day
- Gargling with warm salt water to soothe throat irritation
- Avoiding environmental triggers identified through allergy testing
- Working with a dietitian to ensure proper nutrition while on an elimination diet

However, many myEoEcenter members report that combining dietary changes with medical treatment provides the best control of symptoms and prevention of complications. Consider discussing your concerns about medication with your gastroenterologist who can explain the risks and benefits of different treatment approaches.

Which this is weird, throwing up helps releave the pain for a short time and i can lay down and hopefully beat the pain before it comes back and go to sleep.

Biologics like dupilumab (Dupixent) can be an effective treatment option for EoE. It works by blocking specific immune system responses that cause inflammation. The medication is administered via injection in the upper arm, thigh, or abdomen. Given your complex medical history, it's crucial to work closely with your healthcare team. Here are some key questions to discuss with your doctor:

- How many patients with EoE do they treat?
- What is their standard treatment approach?
- How do they handle emergencies?
- How do they coordinate care with your other specialists?
- What is their experience managing patients with multiple conditions?

Make sure your doctor stays current with the latest EoE research and treatment options to provide you with optimal care.

Based on the instructions to focus only on EoE, I notice you're asking about eosinophilic asthma. Would you like to rephrase your question to focus on EoE (Eosinophilic Esophagitis) instead? That way, I can provide you with the most relevant information for managing your EoE condition. To help understand EoE development, we know it involves genetics, environment, and immune system responses. Eosinophils (specialized white blood cells) play a key role in your immune system and allergic reactions, which can contribute to EoE symptoms.

Question: Could my seasonal symptoms and digestive issues be related to EoE rather than just GERD?

The symptoms you describe, including abdominal pain, difficulty eating, and indigestion, are common with EoE. The seasonal pattern you're noticing is particularly relevant, as many people with EoE experience worsening symptoms during spring and fall when pollen and mold spore levels are high. Research shows that seasonal allergies can trigger or worsen EoE symptoms. When allergens are breathed in, they can contact the esophagus and cause eosinophils to release inflammation-causing chemicals. In fact, biopsies have shown that people with seasonal allergies have more eosinophils in their esophageal tissues during spring compared to winter.

It's recommended to discuss these symptoms with your doctor, who may refer you to a gastroenterologist or allergist for proper testing, including an upper endoscopy and biopsy, to confirm if you have EoE.
