Treatment without medication?

Deanna asked a question 💭

I have EOE which has gotten worse over the years. I would prefer not to be on medication. Has anyone had any luck with just diet changes or anything else rather than medication?

What have yall found that helps the aweful pain with eoe flare ups?

Justin asked a question 💭

Heat has been the only option for me. But whe. Its flared up bad it just stays and every now and then itll ease up my body relaxes enough to fall asleep. This does take time to get to that point. I use hot baths and a heating pad. Its the only release i can get. Doesnt always work. But my flare ups last anywhere from 4 to 12 hrs of constant pain, dizziness, and absolutely sick to my stomach where i have to force myself to throw up. Which this is weird, throwing up helps releave the pain for a short time and i can lay down and hopefully beat the pain before it comes back and go to sleep.

What my issue ended up being wasnt the eoe itself, but the high histamines in my system caused a lot of issues with it. If i remember right my i.e.g. or one of those was really high. I was sent to an allergist where he treated me for allergy symptoms. Im practically allergic to all nature and molds and molds in grass being the highest. I was on injections of the things im allergic to in a set of 3 being 3 different things im allergic to and then switch it up after those rounds are over with the bext 3. I stsrted feeling better all around no more gut troubles and i havent had a flare up in over a year and here we are gettin into allergy season and so far just the sniffles. I have very small allergies to foods but it was amplified from my system being inflamed from the high histamine levels. Its something id urge anyone with eoe to look into as a possibility. Your environment may be playing a huge factor on your system.

Do you find that your EoE condition gets worse weeks after eating something you are allergic too?

Brandon asked a question 💭

I often find that not chewing foods super well causes issues with swallowing as well. It leads me to having to throw up the food to clear my esophagus.

Do you face similar issues?

Question: Could my seasonal symptoms and digestive issues be related to EoE rather than just GERD?

The symptoms you describe, including abdominal pain, difficulty eating, and indigestion, are common with EoE. The seasonal pattern you're noticing is particularly relevant, as many people with EoE experience worsening symptoms during spring and fall when pollen and mold spore levels are high. Research shows that seasonal allergies can trigger or worsen EoE symptoms. When allergens are breathed in, they can contact the esophagus and cause eosinophils to release inflammation-causing chemicals. In fact, biopsies have shown that people with seasonal allergies have more eosinophils in their esophageal tissues during spring compared to winter.

It's recommended to discuss these symptoms with your doctor, who may refer you to a gastroenterologist or allergist for proper testing, including an upper endoscopy and biopsy, to confirm if you have EoE.

This is not a question, more of a quick treatment when food gets stuck in your throat, and it's free.

Bob asked a question 💭

Having had a swallow test done at a hospital, they saw the muscles in my throat don't move food down my throat. They really had no fix for me. But what I found is when food gets stuck, I can clear it by drinking very warm water, not HOT. I think it just get the muscles to relax and allows food to move down. Has worked every time, so have water ready when you start eating. For me, food always gets stuck in one of my first few bites of a meal. Hope it helps you.

The medication is approved for adults and children ages 1 year and older who weigh at least 33 pounds (15 kilograms). Common side effects include injection site reactions and upper respiratory tract infections. It's recommended to discuss this treatment option with your healthcare provider to understand availability in your region.
